For my minicourse video, I created a brief introduction to herbs. This will be one of the first videos in the course, so it's a primer to help get the students ready for the rest of the course. One of the main purposes of the video was to compare culinary herbs with medicinal herbs, noting there is a lot of crossover.
To create the main video, I used an AI video tool called Vidboard.ai, which generated an AI avatar with voice. I think the voice is pretty good, although the avatar lip syncing is not perfect, it's still fairly watchable. The tool was a little buggy and moved some of my assets around when I published the video. I then used FlexClip to edit the video and cover up some of those little visual bugs. I also used an AI tool, Subeasy.ai, to create better subtitles than the ones auto-generated by YouTube.
In terms of accessibility, I created slides with highlights of the text and of course the subtitles are also available. In the YouTube version, you can turn the subtitles on or off; in the FlexClip backup version, the subtitles are baked in and sometimes cover up the slides. In future videos, perhaps I will keep the text higher up so it is not covered by subtitles inadvertently.
